What is NAMI?
NAMI is the largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and their families living with mental illness. NAMI was founded in 1979 and has become the nation’s voice on mental illness. There are NAMI organizations in every state and more than 1,000 local affiliates who join together to educate, support, and advocate for individuals and families affected by mental illness.
NAMI provides consumer and family education classes offered by trained consumers and family members. NAMI also advocates for improved treatments and services to promote recovery and educates the public about issues surrounding serious mental illness. Support groups are also offered throughout the local community affiliates. NAMI Faithnet approaches mental health needs from the spiritual perspective.
